Menu Complete

Well, I have had some good time to work on the game these last few days thanks to the school holidays. I am pleased to announce that I have now created a splash screen and loading screen, and the entire menu is now fully functional. Everything has been optimized too, so images and such load much much faster. All thats really left on this side is the splash audio. Otherwise, I am now on to the actual modeling of the game. Yay! Stay tuned...

Splash Screen

It has been a while since my last post here. I have been extremely busy these last 2 months. Haven't had much of a chance to work on Project Asylum. Thankfully, my holiday is 2 days away, so you can expect some significant work to be done. Couldn't sleep tonight so spent a few hours playing with Blender. I have created the splash screen logo. Its still got to be textured, but that should be done within the next 2 days. Then its just animating it, rendering it, and loading it into the game. After that, its on to the modeling of the asylum structure as well as the items, weapons and enemies etc. Will hopefully have some new screenshots for you soon.

Player Movement Functional

As promised, I completed the player movement. The player can now walk, run and look. I have made a few smaller updates including the loading of the background music to be played ingame as well. Now that they player has control, its time to start modeling the map, weapons, and characters. This, I will not lie, is going to take some time. But as soon as I have a working map, posting a screenshot here will be the first thing I do.

Keep your eyes open...This is going too get interesting :)

Camera Look Completed

Today I managed to get the game camera look functioning correctly. Was a little of an issue working with vectors in 3d. Now its on to movement of the camera. I anticipate this should be done by no later than the end of this coming weekend. Will keep you posted.

Main Game Started

Firstly, I would like to welcome a new member to the team. Pontux is his name, and he too, has had experience using irrlicht before. He has helped out a lot with the development of the Menu Screen. Thanks Pontux.

Now to business. I have started development on the main game. I have decided against using the FPSCamera supplied by irrlicht because I intend to play nifty tricks with it during the game, and therefore it is much easier to alter the behavior of a custom camera than to hack up the irrlicht source for the FPSCamera. The creation of the gameManager and gameEventReceiver are well underway, and, with the help of the irrlicht community, I hope to have the camera working 100% later this week. Once that is sorted, physics will be tackled.

Unfortunately, I have been extremely busy with other work commitments, however, they are coming to an end, so I anticipate regular updates to be made within a decent time frame. Keep your eye out for more information and screen shots to follow in the next few weeks.

Menu Progressing Smoothly

I have started programming the menu screen for the game. I am busy filling in the options that are available to the player. Thank you to Link- for the fantastic background image and sound track.

At the moment, I have an animation for button rollovers, as well as a sound track that plays on loop and a sound for the buttons, when clicked. Once the buttons and comboboxs are complete in the options pages, I will implement the saveing and loading of settings. Please dont forget to check out the screenshots page here that has the newly uploaded screenshot of the current Main Menu screen.

Development Has Started

I have some good news. Last night I started working on Project Asylum. Although nothing much has been done, I did manage to get my IDE set up correctly and can now compile and run projects. My c++ is a bit rusty so its a steep learning curve, however, it will progress from now on.

I have also added a new page to the website. That is the "Project Progress" page to keep you all up to date with any developments and additions of new sections of code and models. At the moment, I am busy setting up the game state manager. Will post an update here when it is done.

Planning Progressing Smoothly

Planning is progressing at a smooth rate. So far the basic gameplay mechanics as well as all the technical information planning is almost complete. Currently, team members are configuring their IDE's and installing the respective softwares in order to create this game.

I would also like to welcome chosen320 to the team.

Launch of Project Asylum Website

We have just launched the website for Project Asylum. Currently, the project is in early planning stages with concept art being drawn up, as well as ideas being brainstormed. The IDE environments are busy being configured, as well as good solid filestructures being implemented.

Most of us are busy with many other activities such as study and work, however we plan to put in as much work as we can into this project as is possible. Check back here for further updates and changes.
